Recent projects in Germany and France

2009 has seen the completion of two sizeable wood-chip fired systems in Germany and France:

  • The second biomass heating system in Sasbachwalden, Germany, went into operation in May, in time for the opening of the outdoor swimming pool which is connected to the heat main. The biomass heating system (400kW wood chip, 600kW oil) is supported by a 40kW gas CHP engine which generates electricity and provides hot water year-round.
  • The district heating system for the town of Betschdorf, France, was commissioned in September 2009. The system provides heating and hot water to a number of very diverse buildings from a 1.4MW wood-chip boiler and a 2MW gas boiler. It also delivers process heat to a large factory.

Careful system design and site management meant that the systems went into operation without a glitch.
