Boiler house and wood fuel silo

System fulfils range of heat requirements

Biomass boiler supplies process heat to factory, and heating and hot water to wide range of buildings

Encouraged by the very successful biomass district heating system in the neighbouring village of Rittershoffen, this town in the Alsace region of France decided to follow suit. Again, our German office was chosen for the project design and development.

A 1.4MW wood chip boiler, backed up by a 2MW gas boiler, supplies heat via a 2km district heating network to a wide range of buildings:

  • A factory owned by a major international manufacturer of control cabinets
  • A supermarket
  • Public buildings, such as the swimming pool, leisure centre, library and school
  • Residential units, such as social housing and a retirement home

The requirements of these buildings in terms of total heat used and daily and seasonal variations are extremely diverse. Excellent system design is required in order to guarantee that heat is provided to all buildings in a reliable and energy efficient manner whenever it is needed. The system went into operation without a glitch.

Under our guidance, the local authority is now joining forces with the neighbouring village to produce wood fuel from communal forests.
