Biomass heating for council-owned housing

Delight at project support

In 2010, Poole Housing Partnership in Poole, Dorset, asked us to design a biomass heating system for four blocks of council-owned housing. Bearing in mind site access and space availability on site, we designed a purpose-built boiler house for the 400kW biomass and backup gas boiler from which heat is distributed to the four on-site blocks via an underground heat main. Planning consent for the scheme was obtained.

We carried out the detailed scheme design along with technical specifications and tender documentation. Costs came in close to budget. Despite expected annual energy savings of around £400 per flat for residents, the cost of the necessary conversion of all heating within the buildings from electric to a wet system proved prohibitive.

The client expressed his delight in our competence and the quality of our support.
